His approach is to view leadership and team development from the perspective of interpersonal skill and communication practices, thus giving credence to the importance of individual differences (diversity) in the workplace. Whereas the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is based on the whole person in a variety of contexts, the Margerison & McCann Team Management System (TMS) is based on only work related contexts. The TMS identifies eight work related preferences, team preference roles and linking skills that integrate individual preferences with team tasks. Both approaches are based on the Jungian theories of psychological theories of archetypes. Dr Sample has used the MBTI and TMS in a variety of organizational contexts:
